The ever-increasing settlement of the region created a great demand for lumber to build houses. By mid 19th century our signature industry was well established and logging became a major economic driver. How large? In a recent year, 1991, over 900 million board feet of lumber on public land was offered for sale.
The top border features Swedish and Norwegian greetings, an Oregon grape branch and a Douglas Fir bough with cone.
